Bill McDonald is a finance professional with extensive senior management experience in central and local government and corporate organisations. He works alongside people at all levels of an organisation to identify and extract the appropriate information and assistance needed to deliver a client solution.

He offers a big-picture capability that delivers a balance of information integrity and business needs - and allows this to shift as necessary. Underpinning this is sound commercial and financial judgment acquired from years of practice in senior roles and as a consultant in a multitude of capacities, coupled with a pragmatic approach that achieves a workable outcome for all concernened.

A qualified accountant with impressive systems and technical ability, Bill is able to synthesise and consolidate wide-ranging data sources and information to form functional enterprise modelling tools. While his skill mix has led to a specialist interest in creating business-modelling tools, Bill can also provide accounting and business advice and a range of reporting services.

Bill has worked extensively with Department of Corrections in a variety of projects, the latest being Project Manager for the Auckland East Redevelopment Project. A significant infrastructure replacement initiative, this role was charged with initiating the Stage II Detailed Business Case for Cabinet approval. He also provided financial analysis for the financial workstream for the prison development at Wiri, being procured under a PPP. He was responsible for integration and consolidation of all of the Department's capital processes that included integrating Treasury's Better Business Cases framework for capital proposals, and developed a prison costing model and tools to meet requirements of Treasury's Capital Asset Management Framework.

Prior to his consultancy work, Bill was Chief Financial Officer at Wellington City Council. This experience provided in-depth knowledge of the workings of the finance function including workflows, processes and risk areas, complemented by an outward-looking understanding of customer and stakeholder expectations, reporting and other information requirements.

Bill specialises in business modelling (including financial, remuneration systems, risk management and resource modelling), performance management (including measurement, monitoring and benchmarking), financial management, planning and reporting, business analysis, re-structuring and process re-engineering, business case development, business information management and analysis, statistical analysis and mathematical modelling, risk assessment, management and monitoring, and information system implementation.

bill-leisureBill holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration from Victoria University of Wellington and is a member of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants, New Zealand Society for Risk Management, Project Management Institute, and New Zealand Asset Management Support.

Out-of-hours Bill can be found coaching junior golfers, and when he can really get away from it all, angling for the big one at Turangi.
